Women's Softball

The Topsfield Women’s Softball League is made up of six teams each with about 15 players and one or two captains and consists mainly of Topsfield and Boxford women, although there are players from other towns as well.  We play with no umpires, no balls or strikes, and use one page of simple rules that exclude sliding, bunting, leading, and pass balls. The games are fun and can be competitive but in a low-key way, and the skill levels of the players vary quite a bit, ranging from women who played in high school and college to some who have watched games from the sidelines but have never previously played themselves.

The games are played every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. all summer at the three fields located behind the Emerson Center in downtown Topsfield.

The cost per player is $30.  Please complete the registration through SportsPilot.

Season Date:  last Tuesday in June through the last Tuesday in August

Girls' Softball

Online registration will open in February each year, with games starting in April.

Girl’s softball is divided into 3 age groups:

  • Farm:            2nd through 4th Graders
  • Juniors:         5th and 6th Graders
  • Seniors:        7th and 8th Graders

All 3 age groups play in the Essex County Women’s Softball League (www.essexcountysoftball.com) against girls from surrounding towns. There are normally 2 games per week. Home games are played at Emerson and Klock fields. Coaches typically hold practices once per week.  Shirts, visors and socks are provided to each player.  Shirts are returned to the TAA at the end of the season while visors and socks are kept by the player.

Farm and junior leagues play with an 11” softball and have restricted rules such as no stealing.  Seniors play with a 12” softball and closely follow high school softball rules. Emphasis is on learning skills and having fun.  Skill development includes: hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, pitching, base running and game situations.
